Beaverton Students Successful In Los Angeles At Intel ISEFSeven Beaverton School District high school students recently competed in the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair (Intel ISEF) in Los Angeles, CA.Forrest Betton, Eric Thomas and Demitri Hopkins, from Merlo Station High School were awarded a Best of Category prize in Electrical and Mechanical Engineering for their project - Inertial Electrostatic Confinement Fusion Focused with Electrostatic Focusing Lenses. The three will split $5,000 for their Best of Category win. They also each won a 1st Place Grand Award in Electrical and Mechanical Engineering for their project. That award came with a $3,000 prize for the team. The team met with President Obama on February 18, 2011 when he visited Intel. The ISEF program is the world’s largest international pre-college science competition and is the premier global science competition for students in grades 9-12. More than 1,600 high school students from 65 countries, regions, and territories will display their independent research and compete for more than $4 million in awards and prizes.
