Oak Hills ES Staff Member Named Fuel Up To Play 60 Program Advisor Of The Year For Oregon
Jenifer Hiatt, Nutrition Services Lead at Oak Hills Elementary School, has been awarded the Fuel Up to Play 60 Program Advisor of the Year for the state of Oregon by the Oregon Dairy Council. Students were encouraged to sign a pledge to make healthy food choices and get at least 60 minutes of exercise a day. The team also implemented a healthy food item taste test each week and started the Oak Hills on the Move running program. Jenifer has won an NFL Alumni player visit to her school to help celebrate. She will also be awarded with a Sony Bloggie camera for her personal use, and recognition on the national Fuel Up to Play 60 web site. Fuel Up to Play 60 is an in-school nutrition and physical activity program launched by the National Dairy Council (NDC) and National Football League (NFL), in collaboration with the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), to combat childhood obesity. Fuel Up to Play 60 helps students make positive changes in their schools by improving opportunities to consume nutrient-rich foods and get at least 60 minutes of physical activity every day.The ultimate goal is to ensure changes made at school are sustainable and complements - not competes with - an academics-focused environment.
