Background

The Strategic Plan was adopted by the Beaverton School Board on June 1, 2009. This information will be used for action planning and
implementation in the 2009-2010 school year as the District develops a comprehensive plan to advance student achievement over the next five years and beyond.

BACKGROUND:

Throughout the 2008-09 school year, the School Board led a strategic planning effort for the District. The outcome was the development of the vision, mission, goals and priorities for the next five years. These will define our vision of an excellent school district with high student achievement and strong community connections.

The District contracted with Decisions Decisions, a Portland-based consulting group specializing in planning for public and nonprofit agencies. There were four overall goals for this process:

• Build agreement within the District about our strengths and challenges, which will help us develop our vision, mission, values, beliefs and strategic directions.

• Develop a clear understanding of our community needs and desires, and the District’s ability to address them.

• Create a stronger and more cohesive organization by planning the direction of the District, putting that plan into action, and evaluating the work that we do.

• To ensure that our strategic plan succeeds, inspire commitment and confidence among our key communities, including parents, students, teachers, administrators, neighbors, businesses and taxpayers.

Our students and their success are at the center of our planning process. A solid plan that we’ve built together will help the District and our students achieve excellence.

Input and involvement from every member of the Beaverton School District Community is critical to the success of this process. Keep an eye on this space for updates and directions on how you can get involved.
