The Beaverton School District has formed an Advisory Committee for Sustainability to examine District practices and provide recommendations to help guide the District in a direction consistent with the District’s Sustainability Policy PDF Document and Administrative Regulation PDF Document, adopted May 2009, in its planning and routine operations.

Committee membership PDF Documentis structured to include the parents of District students, community partners, school and central office staff. Committee meetings are open to the public and are scheduled to fall on the Monday following the District School Board Business Meeting when possible.

The Committee shall work with District staff to prepare a long range plan PDF Documentidentifying goals with metrics related to achieving sustainability within the District and integrate these sustainability goals into the District’s general practices. Topical areas to be considered by the Committee include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Curriculum
  • Indoor Air Quality
  • Facilities Design/Construction
  • Sustainable Food
  • Energy Management
  • Transportation
  • Sustainable Procurement
  • Waste Prevention and Recycling
  • Reduction in the Use of Toxic Materials
  • Water Management

City of Beaverton Outreach to Community with Sustainability Forums

The City of Beaverton invites the BSD community to four sustainability forums being held at the Beaverton City Library that will focus on global, national, state, and local sustainability topics. The forums will offer sustainability education, a place for people to share their voice, and the opportunity for residents to join the city's first sustainability action team.
