Summa Eligibility


2012-2013 Summa Eligibility Requirements

Eligibility Criteria:
  1. live within the Beaverton School District boundaries
  2. be TAG Identified as outlined by OAR 581-022-1310
  3. perform on a recently administered (within two years) standardized, nationally normed test, meeting the following criteria:
99%ile in Cognitive Ability
OR
99%ile in Reading or Math Achievement
and
97%ile in Reading or Math Achievement
or Cognitive Ability

**Test scores from psychologists or agencies outside a school district will not be accepted.

Students who live within the Beaverton School District and attend home schools, private schools or schools outside the Beaverton School District

Testing
For fifth grade students tested outside the Beaverton School District, but within a school system, results from a recently administered (within two years), acceptable (e.g., meets professional standards for technical adequacy), standardized, nationally normed test of mental ability and/or academic achievement will be accepted if the scores meet the criteria.

  • If recent (within two years), scores from within a school system are available, no testing will be administered.
  • When no test scores from a school system are available, the NNAT and/or Iowa Test of Basic Skills will be administered by District Personnel. Test scores from psychologists or agencies outside a school district will not be accepted. To request testing, parents must nominate a 5th grade student using a nomination form PDF Document available online at /home/departments/instruction/talented-and-gifted/. Dates for testing will be communicated by letter to each applicant.

TAG Identification
In addition, students attending school outside the BSD will be required to provide a teacher recommendation, including behavioral, learning and/or performance information for TAG identification purposes. A District committee will meet to determine TAG eligibility the last school day of each month.

Timeline
  • BSD students applying for Summa must follow application deadlines determined annually by the Learning Options Placement Office.
  • Students who become eligible for Summa after the application deadline will be given the option for placement in Summa where space is available.
