Principal's Message
As the options high school for the Beaverton School District, Merlo Station offers many different programs to help meet students' educational goals. Students, parents and staff members form partnerships to support the work necessary to ensure a strong community of learners. We operate under the Ten Common Principles associated with the Coalition of Essential Schools (CES). Briefly, those principles are:
1. Help students learn to use their minds well.
2. Emphasize “less is more.”
3. Apply goals to all students.
4. Personalize teaching and learning.
5. Embrace the metaphor “students as worker, teacher as coach.”
6. Require students to demonstrate mastery through exhibition.
7. Stress un-anxious expectations, trust, and decency.
8. Consider teachers as generalists with a commitment to the entire
school.
9. Dedicate resources to teaching and learning.
10. Model democratic and equitable practices.
(Full text of the Common Principles is available in the main office.)
If you have any questions, please call (503) 259-5575 ext 9. We invite your participation in making Merlo Station High School a positive, safe learning environment for all students.
Sincerely,
Greg Parcher
