History

McKinley Elementary School is named after the 25th President of the United States, William McKinley.

It was established in 1889 in a 20 x 30 foot building on this present site, selected by Nels Johnson, Albert Keehn and Julius Foege. (pictured)

A new school replaced this building in 1916 and the large bell was installed.

The addition in 1944 necessitated the removal of the belfry.

The present school opened in 1957. After 20 years of silence, the "old bell" was rededicated as a memorial to past generations and an inspiration to the future.
