Advanced Award
Standards and assessments remain fundamental to Oregon's accountability system and No Child Left Behind (NCLB). Both state and federal law require that schools measure student performance against state adopted content and achievement standards. At Southridge and other high schools, statewide assessments are required for students in the 10th grade. The assessments measure students against standards on state tests by having students demonstrate their knowledge in English, mathematics, science, and social studies. Classroom assignments are also used to meet work sample requirements.
The state is currently reviewing the ways in which student skills will be measured in a standards-based system. An advanced award (formerly CAM) may be awarded to those students who have completed all of the career related learning standards, demonstrated extended application of knowlege, and maintained a plan & profile. In addition, students must meet standards on state tests and classroom assignments in English, mathematics, science, and social studies.
The Southridge Academic Program Planning Guide provides more information on diploma and state assessment requirements.
The Oregon State Department of Education website also provides more information on all aspects of assessment and evaluation, including details on the diploma and assessment requirements.
