Academic Planning
SRHS operates on a trimester calendar that enables us to offer more extensive course programming. The school day runs from 7:45 am to 2:30 pm. Students attend five classes for 70 minutes each.
Each successfully completed class earns a student one-half credit. This offers a student a possible 7.5 credits per year, for a total of 30 possible credits they can obtain in their four years at Southridge. Only 23 credits are necessary to graduate (24 credits beginning with the class of 2010).
Graduation requirements include 4 credits of language arts, 2 credits of math, 3 credits of social sciences, 2 credits of science, 1 credit of health, 1 credit of physical education, 9.5 credits in applied arts, fine arts, or second language, and 1/2 credit career development (.5). Students must also complete sixty hours of service learning.
In addition to the graduation requirements, it is also highly recommended that students select to earn an IB Diploma and/or a Career Academy endorsement. All students are expected to take a rigorous course of studies culminating in a senior project , completion of 60 hours of service learning, an internship and/or other career related learning experiences all of which are tied to one or more career academy endorsements.
Our academic program has been enhanced by our affiliate status with the International Baccalaureate Organization.
Students forecast for classes through Skytime/Advisory and can do self-designed academy endorsements. The Academic Program Planning Guide lists the extensive menu of course offerings students may choose from. Advisories facilitate conferencing, 9-12 Portfolio Management, preparation for state assessments, facilitation of Forecasting Activities including the Four Year Mapped Academic Plan & Profile (MAPP), Career Academy advisement, and the completion of registration materials. Service Learning and all other graduation requirements are also monitored through Skytime/Advisory. The Southridge Advisory Committee (representatives of all disciplines and counselors) crafts the advisory agendas.
