Springville K-8 School
Principal's Page

Cheryl Thank you for visiting the Springville K-8 School website! Springville K-8 School is the Beaverton School District's newest school to open, in September 2009. While the school will eventually be for kindergarten through 8th grade, in 2010-2011 we are offering K-6. Springville's 5th graders have the option to apply to attend 6th grade at Springville, or attend the neighborhood middle school, Stoller. Each year an additional grade level will be added, until the school is a fully functioning K-8 school. Additional students may apply to attend grades 6-8 as an options school.

I am honored to be Springville School's principal!  I also served as principal of Terra Linda Elementary School for five years, and prior to that I was assistant principal at Five Oaks Middle School. My experience has also included working at the central office and teaching at McKinley Elementary School and in Iowa.

I grew up in Iowa and still have strong family and friendship ties there, leading to yearly visits. I received my bachelors and masters degrees at the University of Northern Iowa. (I also earned a doctorate from Portland State University.) My husband, originally from Washington, and I decided to move to Portland to be in the midst of the beautiful northwest! We have two sons, both mechanical engineers. All of us spend time in the outdoors in a variety of ways. Besides outdoor activities, I enjoy photography, collecting antiques, reading, travel, and learning about Native American culture and history.

I also absolutely love being an educator! Educators often dream of creating a school, and Springville is the realization of three dreams for me: (1) starting a school, (2) being part of a K-8 program, and (3) creating educational experiences built on high level thinking. To learn more about Springville's educational approach, called Expeditionary Learning, check the "Educational Approach" section of this website.
