During the March 17, 2015, Hillsboro School Board meeting, Director
Glenn Miller proposed an exchange of property between the Hillsboro and
Beaverton school districts; and during the April 28, 2015, Board meeting,
Board members reviewed and discussed information that was gathered
regarding the potential impact of the proposed boundary adjustment, in
accordance with the Hillsboro District's boundary adjustment request process.
During the May 26, 2015, Board meeting, the Hillsboro Board approved further
exploration of the possibilities related to boundary adjustments between
the Hillsboro and Beaverton school districts.
In June 2015,
Hillsboro's School Board approved the exploration, and in July 2015,
Hillsboro presented Beaverton with a proposed process by which to move
forward with the discussion. That process involved:
a working group, comprised of both district superintendents, district
deputies/Chief Financial Officers, and School Board Chairs, to explore
- Evaluating the proposal in terms of its purpose;
size; impact to current and future students, property owners, and the
districts; alignment with strategic and long-range plans in both
- Developing a communication process to include
Q&A documents, maps, community meetings, and other opportunities for
- Determining the overall timeline by which a decision will be made, and what those potential decisions might be.
Beaverton's School Board approved the process at its August 31, 2015, meeting, and the first meeting of the joint working group occurred on Thursday, September 10, 2015.
