Superintendent
On July 1, 2026, Dr. Tony Smith began his tenure as superintendent. Dr. Smith spent his first official day meeting with staff and parents, following a series of district visits in March, April and June, after his hiring was announced.
Selected after a rigorous nationwide search that began last August, Dr. Smith steps into the role with a deep passion for student success and a clear mandate from the community.
A Proven Leader for Beaverton’s Future
Dr. Smith arrives in Beaverton with a wealth of diverse educational experience. Most recently, he served as the Deputy Superintendent of Schools for Denver Public Schools. His career in education spans from the classroom to executive leadership, having served as a high school English teacher, principal, instructional superintendent, Chief of Equity and Engagement and a regional superintendent for KIPP Texas Public Schools in Dallas.
It is this robust background that made him the unanimous choice for the Beaverton School Board and the community-based selection panel.
First Priority: Look, Listen and Learn
While Dr. Smith brings a track record of academic results, his immediate focus is on building relationships. As he begins his first year, he emphasizes that his day-one priority is to connect directly with the people who make Beaverton thrive.
"My first priority is simple: look, listen and learn," says Dr. Smith. "I want to spend time in our schools, meet our students and staff, and hear directly from families and community members. I want to understand what makes Beaverton strong and where we can grow together."
