Aloha-Huber Park K-8 Student Athlete Program
Aloha-Huber Park K-8 currently has 100 kids in grades 4-8 participating in its "Student Athlete" program. This program is a partnership between Aloha-Huber Park K-8 teachers and the Camps for Kids Foundation, a Beaverton-based non-profit organization that gives economically disadvantaged kids the opportunity to remain in afterschool activities by providing needs-based scholarships.
The Student Athlete Program focuses on explicitly teaching students the importance of balancing organized sports with the importance of academic organization and achievement. Students receive focused, afterschool academic and organizational support from certified Aloha-Huber Park K-8 teachers, three days a week, for 90 minutes, as well as the opportunity to participate in a seasonal sport (Football – Fall, Basketball – Winter, Soccer – Spring).
The program is funded 50-50 by the Camps for Kids Foundation and Aloha-Huber Park K-8 School.
Camps for Kids has generously awarded both individual and group scholarships to the students of Aloha-Huber Park for the past six years, enabling students to attend a wide variety of summer and after school activities.
