WE Innovate: BSD Future Bus
You may have noticed something a little more colorful hitting the roads in Beaverton this year. With the help of community partners, First Tech Federal Credit Union, Gallagher Designs, Stumptown Coffee, and the Beaverton Education Foundation, a mobile inspiration studio has been created here in the Beaverton School District. It's known as the Future Bus. The idea is to foster a mobile maker space for students to express their creativity and inspire them to experiment with science, engineering, and creative design.
Bus #224 had been making the rounds throughout the Beaverton School District since 1989, but in its advanced age, has been given a brand new life. New flooring, cabinetry and an innovative workspace have been installed to foster learning on the inside and it is packed full of electronics, 3-D printers, and most importantly, ideas waiting to be discovered. With the help of Gallagher Designs and First Tech Federal Credit Union, a creative circuit board-inspired wrap now covers this renewed bus.
The goal of the Future Bus is not only to give students immense learning opportunities, but also to encourage excitement about creating. Although technology is such a large part of our community today, it is not so much about learning to use the technology, as it is learning what you can do with technology to create new ideas.
Keep your eye out for the Future Bus at community events for your opportunity to see how this creative approach to learning is helping our students step into their future.
