Changes to COVID-19 Protocols

As COVID-19 conditions change, we continue to evaluate our protocols. We want to make you aware of a few changes:

Athletic Events & Performances

As of February 22, we’ll be lifting some restrictions at athletic events and performances.

  • Athletes and coaches who are not actively participating (e.g. on the sideline) during indoor practices or games are required to wear masks. Athletes and coaches who are not actively participating during outdoor practices or games are not required to wear masks. Athletes who are actively participating either indoors or outdoors are not required to be masked.
  • For indoor band, choir and theater rehearsals, participants are required to wear masks. For indoor performances, they’re not required to wear masks. No masks are required outdoors.
  • Student spectators can attend athletic events and performances.
  • Indoor venues will be utilizing up to 50% of seating capacity. To accommodate this restriction, schools may distribute tickets. Please check with your school for more information. Outdoor venues will not have capacity restrictions due to COVID-19.
  • Indoor spectators are required to wear masks. Outdoor spectators are not required to wear masks.
  • Spectators are encouraged to maintain at least 6 feet of distance between families/groups, to the extent possible. We recognize that social distancing at some athletic events may be challenging, so please only attend if you’re comfortable doing so.
  • Indoor concessions will not be allowed. Outdoor concessions will be allowed.

Field Trips

As of February 22, we’ll be lifting some restrictions on field trips.

  • Both outdoor and indoor field trips will be allowed. Students participating in indoor activities are required to wear masks. Those participating in outdoor activities are not required to wear masks.
  • If field trips are to venues that require proof of vaccination or a negative COVID-19 test, schools need to ensure that every student has access to an approved test if they are not fully vaccinated.

Overnight Trips

As of March 1, we’ll be lifting some restrictions on overnight trips.

  • Overnight trips will be allowed. Please consult with coaches, athletic directors or school administrators for specific rules.
  • Exception requests for overnight trips before March 1 must be submitted by an athletic director or administrator for district review.

Proms

As of February 22, we’ll be lifting some restrictions on school proms; however, other school dances are still paused.

  • Outdoor proms are encouraged. Attendees are not required to wear masks outdoors. For indoor proms, attendees are required to wear masks, and capacity is limited to 50%.
  • School organizing committees should consult with school administrators for specific rules.

Visitors

As of February 22, we’ll be lifting some restrictions on visitors in schools.

  • Schools are allowed to have in-person guests, for example: CTE industry guests/partners, career day participants, military recruiters, mock interview helpers and visiting authors/artists/presenters from local organizations. All visitors are required to wear masks indoors.
  • Parent-teacher conferences, IEP meetings and 504 meetings may be conducted in-person at school. Participants are required to wear masks indoors.
  • PTOs and PTCs can hold in-person meetings at school during after-school hours. Participants are required to wear masks indoors.
  • No visitors will be allowed at lunch (unless volunteering) or outdoor events during school hours.

Volunteers

As of February 22, we’ll be lifting some restrictions on volunteers working in our schools.

  • All volunteers, including student volunteers and peer mentors from other BSD schools, are allowed at the discretion of school principals.
  • All volunteers must be registered in our Volunteer Management System and pass a mandatory background check.
  • Per Governor Kate Brown’s mandate, all volunteers must be vaccinated or submit a medical or religious exception. Those volunteers with approved exceptions may not work directly with students.
  • Volunteers are required to wear masks indoors. Volunteers are not required to wear masks outdoors.
  • Volunteer Service Projects can resume.
