Face Coverings for Sports

We’re excited to offer the opportunity for our high school students to participate in athletics and for families to watch their athletes compete, but we do need your help.

Our high schools must be in compliance with the face covering requirement mandated by the Oregon Health Authority (OHA) and Governor’s Office in order to continue offering athletic and activity opportunities to our students.

To ensure the safety of everyone, we ask that you strictly follow the rules set forth by the OHA, Governor’s Office and Oregon School Activities Association (OSAA). Those rules state that everyone — athletes, coaches, trainers, referees and spectators — must properly wear face coverings at all times. This rule applies during pre-game warm-ups, and post-game celebrations. It applies to anyone standing on the sidelines. It also applies to any spectators on stadium grounds, in the bleachers or in gyms. Masks must cover both your mouth and nose at all times. The only exception to the rule is athletes who are outdoors, competing in or practicing a non-contact sport and maintains at least six (6) feet of distance from individuals outside of their household. Non-contact sports include tennis, swimming, golf, cross country, track & field, sideline/no-contact cheer and dance. This does not apply to baseball and softball which are designated by OHA as minimal/medium contact sports.

We understand how important athletics are to the well-being of our students. Thank you for doing your part to ensure that they can continue to compete.
