SMART Volunteers

SMART volunteers and site coordinators serve nearly 500 students selected by their teachers for the programs at Barnes, Beaver Acres, Fir Grove, Greenway, Hazeldale, McKinley, Vose and William Walker elementary schools. They recruit and train more than 200 volunteers who provide weekly literacy support to help motivate, build confidence and a love of reading in Beaverton students. The children also get to choose two new books each month to take with them and keep.

SMART volunteer site coordinators at each school donate 5-15 hours a week to ensure that the program runs smoothly, is not a disruption to the teachers' busy day and provides a positive and fun learning experience for the children. Volunteer readers donate from 1-3 hours a week reading with students.

SMART volunteers and site coordinators love their partnership with the Beaverton schools and Beaverton schools love SMART! SMART volunteers always arrive at their assigned schools with a smile and ready to help!
