Teach
"The Beaverton School District has opened many doors for me. I started with the district back in 2013 as a paraeducator. I had very little experience in education but I received an endless amount of support and guidance from my colleagues and administrators. I was able to participate in a BSD-Portland State University partnership that allowed me to become a 2nd grade dual language teacher. I really enjoy being a teacher in BSD and love working with my students."- GUSTAVO CERVANTES, BILINGUAL TEACHER
Our teachers are the heart of our district.
When our students and parents are asked to identify the number one strength of the Beaverton School District, the majority say "our teachers" and their genuine dedication to their students — not only their academic growth and success but their social and emotional well-being. Our teachers emphasize relationship and strive to have all their students feel a sense of belonging in their classrooms. Teachers develop meaningful and supportive relationships with their colleagues, as well. It's why many BSD teachers begin their careers in the district and then never leave.

SUBSTITUTE TEACHING POSITIONS
Licensed teacher substitutes do need a teaching license from the Teacher Standards and Practices Commission (TSPC). However, applicants do not need a teaching license to apply; they simply need a bachelor’s degree in any field. If hired, BSD will sponsor an applicant for a restricted substitute teaching license from TSPC, if needed.
The district hires two types of substitute teachers:
-
At-will Licensed Substitute Teacher: An at-will licensed substitute teacher fills in for a classroom teacher or any licensed role in the district that requires a substitute teacher. This type of substitute has the ability to accept or decline assignments on a daily basis.
-
Full-time Deployable Contracted Substitute: A full-time deployable contracted (by school year) substitute teacher works every school day and is placed strategically by Human Resources to alleviate substitute shortages at impacted schools. Placement varies each day; a deployable substitute must be willing to teach in any assignment from PreK - 12 in both general and special education settings.
-
The 2024-2025 Licensed Substitute postings will be available in the fall of 2024.

The Multilingual Department in collaboration with Education Northwest conducted a multi-year evaluation of dual language programs in the district. As a result of this evaluation as well as decades of national research, we will be working with key stakeholders to develop a 3- to 5-year plan to expand access to dual language programs across the district for all students. The mission of our dual language programs is to honor and develop multilingual, multiliterate and multicultural students through a rigorous, culturally inclusive education while nurturing a diversity of identities and empowering students to become agents of change in a global community. The specific goals of the program are for students to attain a high level of bilingualism/biliteracy proficiency in two or more languages, high academic achievement in all subject areas and sociocultural competence. If you're a bilingual teacher, please consider working in BSD, a district that values dual language education.
