Closure of McKay Elementary School
The Beaverton School Board voted to close McKay Elementary School (7485 SW Scholls Ferry Rd.) at the end of the 2025-2026 school year.
McKay is currently the smallest elementary school in our district and is continuing to get smaller. The closure seeks to ensure students have access to robust educational resources and stable staffing amidst the district’s declining student enrollment.
The district will maintain possession of the school building. After addressing any essential deferred maintenance or seismic stability issues, the building may be repurposed to house other district programs.
School Assignments for 2026-2027
The new attendance boundary will use Highway 217 as the dividing line.
- Students who live west of Highway 217 will attend Greenway Elementary School (9150 SW Downing Drive).
- Students who live east of Highway 217 will attend the new Raleigh Hills Elementary School (5225 SW Scholls Ferry Road).
If parents are unsure about their school assignment, please call the McKay main office to verify.
The district Transportation Department is working on new bus routing. If students are eligible for busing, families will receive information in August.

In-District Transfers
If students are currently attending McKay on in-district transfers, parents will receive new open enrollment forms via ParentSquare to indicate a preference for attending Greenway or Raleigh Hills next school year. The forms should be submitted online or returned to McKay’s main office no later than Friday, March 20 at noon. If parents do not complete the form, they'll receive a call to verify that they're choosing for their students to return to their assigned neighborhood schools.
Specialized Program Placements
Academic Learning Center (ALC): The ALC will relocate to Greenway Elementary beginning next school year. Students in the program will move together so that the model and supports remain consistent. McKay's ALC teachers and staff will work with students over the next few months to help prepare them for the transition. Like all students who will attend Greenway next year, ALC students and their families will be invited to the school’s “Welcome to Greenway” activities this spring to become familiar with the building, staff and school community.
While the district cannot guarantee specific staff placements, it's committed to maintaining a strong team to support the ALC program and ensure continuity for students.
Pre-K Program
The McKay pre-K program will be moved to the new Raleigh Hills Elementary School in 2026-2027.
Welcoming New Students & Commemorating McKay
Principals at Greenway and Raleigh Hills will be reaching out to new families via ParentSquare after spring break. In collaboration with McKay, they're planning:
- Welcome events and open houses, including ones for pre-K and kindergarten families.
- Field trips and joint assemblies for students to meet their new peers.
To honor the school's history, the McKay community is planning an open house for former students, families and neighbors to walk the halls one last time, as well as a big carnival celebration to close out the school year.
