Sato/Springville Elementary Boundary Adjustment

The Beaverton School District is undertaking a boundary adjustment project with the objective to improve the neighborhood consistency of the subject areas and to plan for anticipated enrollment growth in the area.

The primary area to be affected is the neighborhood centered on NW Crossvine Street.  These properties currently feed into Sato Elementary School.  These properties will now feed into Springville Elementary School like the rest of the larger neighborhood.

The graphic dated October 11, 2021 shows the current Sato ES and Springville ES attendance boundaries in color shading.  The new attendance boundary is noted in red dashes.  The new attendance boundary will become effective July 1, 2022 (SY 2022-23),

This boundary adjustment will not change the Middle or High School attendance boundaries.  The properties affected by the attendance boundary adjustment will continue to feed into Stoller Middle School and Westview High School.

A virtual public meeting will be held on October 26, 2021 starting at 7:00 PM.  The meeting will be to describe the attendance boundary adjustment, the schedule for the adjustment, and to answer your questions.

A recording of the meeting can be found on our district youtube channel here

Update November 30, 2021:  Superintendent’s Boundary Adjustment Decision

Superintendent Grotting has reviewed the proposed boundary adjustment and input from the community & public meeting.  The Superintendent’s decision regarding the proposed boundary adjustment can be downloaded here

A map showing the Superintendent’s boundary adjustment decision can be downloaded here.

The decision includes the details of the legacy program for students who wish to remain at Sato ES. District staff will develop and publish materials for families to apply for the legacy program in January 2021.  The materials will be published on the District's webpage.

The School Board will consider the proposed boundary adjustment decision at the December 13th Business Meeting. Board adoption is proposed for the January 18th Board Meeting. Board meeting packets are posted on the School Board meeting homepage prior to each meeting.

Update January 20, 2022:  Boundary Adjustment Adopted

At the January 18th, 2022 School Board business meeting the Board adopted the proposed boundary adjustment between Sato and Springville Elementary Schools. The boundary adjustment will go into effect immediately, effective for the remainder of the 2021-22 school year.  [Boundary Adjustment Recommendation]

Students in the affected area who attend Sato ES will be offered the opportunity to remain under the voluntary legacy program.

Below are the provisions of the legacy program:

To ease the transition of returning to in-person learning for the students currently enrolled at Sato ES, I have decided to create a legacy enrollment program at Sato ES. The legacy program will be as follows:

  1. The legacy program is an optional program. Families will need to apply to participate.
  2. Under the legacy program a student may remain at Sato ES through their 5th grade year, provided they are enrolled continuously.
  3. Only students enrolled at Sato ES on or before February 3rd, 2022 will be eligible for the legacy program.
  4. Non-enrolled siblings of students who remain at Sato ES under the legacy program will not be permitted to attend Sato ES under this legacy program.
  5. Students who choose to remain at Sato ES under the legacy program will continue to be provided bus transportation to Sato ES for the remainder of the 2021-22 school year.
  6. Consistent with past practice, incoming 5th graders (this year’s 4th graders) will be eligible for one year of bus transportation to Sato ES in 2022-23. Given the small area and number of students, this bus transportation will be offered to all students attending Sato under the legacy program. No bus transportation will be provided for legacy program students after the 2022-23 school year.
