The Beaverton School District's Nutrition Services department nourishes minds by providing appealing, nutritious meals for students while they are in school. Good nutrition is essential in the learning process, and our mission is to help ensure students are ready to learn.

Here are some basic facts about how Nutrition Services operates:

  • The District's Nutrition Services (NS) department operates federally sponsored child nutrition programs on behalf of the district and under contract with the Oregon Department of Education Child Nutrition Program (ODE CNP) and the Unites States Department of Agriculture (USDA).
  • The district does not contract with a food service management company to operate the child nutrition programs offered.  By School Board policy, NS is required to be self-supporting, providing nutritious meals while operating in a fiscally efficient manner with no General Fund support.
  • NS operates the National School Lunch Program (NSLP) and the School Breakfast Program (SBP) at each of the district's 52 sites.
  • The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) and the School Breakfast Program (SBP) are federal entitlement programs authorized by Congress and funded mainly through USDA meal reimbursements (63%) and meal payments from students (23%).
