School Counselors and College & Career Specialists support career and college readiness by:
 
  • Providing students with multiple opportunities for students to identify areas of interests including Career Related Learning Experiences and Educational Learning Opportunities.
  • Assisting students in exploring interests beyond the classroom.
  • Developing systemic and sustainable program goals so students are career and college ready as they graduate from high school.

The Beaverton School District is committed to supporting students and families achieve post high school success.  The College and Career Counselors and Specialists provide a series of informational nights to help students and families explore and prepare for post high school options.  Read the descriptions to learn more about these informational nights and we look forward to seeing you at a future event.

Ready to Graduate

  • Senior Night - Representatives from our Oregon Public/State universities, private universities, PCC and Fine/Visual/and Performing Arts colleges will be talking about the admissions process.  A session on Writing Effective College Essays will also be offered.   This is an important informational evening for all senior students and their families as they proceed with their post-high school planning.

Exploring Options & Early Planning

  • Career and Technical Education Fair - An opportunity to explore career-specific post high school education and training options for high-wage, high-demand careers in the areas of Health, Information Technology (IT), Construction, and Manufacturing. Apprenticeship programs, community colleges and direct workforce opportunities represented.  Volunteer and Travel opportunities also in attendance.

  • College Planning Night - Come learn about the college application process.  Attend presentations to learn more about community colleges, building a strong college profile, and finding the right college for you.

Paying for College

  • Financial Aid Night & FAFSA/ORSAA Workshop - Learn about how to pay for college and trade schools. You will learn about the basics of financial aid, including scholarship information and how to begin the process of getting money for your student's future. The evening will conclude with a FAFSA/ORSAA workshop where plenty of financial aid professionals will be able to help you start and possibly even finish the form!

  • Finding Affordable Colleges - This presentation will provide families with the tools to evaluate colleges to see which will be the most generous for your child. It will also help families become better consumers by teaching the vocabulary, timelines, and context of how financial aid is offered.
