Language Arts / English Language Proficiency Curriculum Adoption Project Team
Beaverton School District seeks applicants for Language Arts and English Language Proficiency Project Team
Please note that the original timeline has been revised again. The Project Team selection and work will not begin until the 2023-24 school year. Applications received to date will be retained and applicants will be contacted with information when it becomes available.
The main factor for the change is the impact the Oregon Department of Education's current work on revising Oregon's Literacy Framework will have on adoption considerations. It also will allow for the teacher cadre to complete additional research to be used in the adoption process.
Students, parents/guardians, staff and community members are encouraged to apply to serve on the Language Arts and English Language Proficiency (LA/ELP) Project Team. This will be a combined adoption of LA/ELP; participants do not need to be familiar with both components. The Project Team will review existing LA/ELP curriculum and practices to make curriculum adoption recommendations to the School Board. The Project Team is an important part of the BSD Quality Curriculum Cycle (QCC), which provides a systematic means for making decisions about the curriculum review, revision, development and adoption of practices and instructional resources.
The Project Team’s work will tentatively begin in March 2023 and will conclude by June 2024. The team will meet for Phase I on Tuesdays from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. via Zoom (unless otherwise communicated). Participants are asked to make a two-year commitment. Phase II dates will be scheduled at the end of Phase I.
The Project Team and supporting BSD Teacher Cadre will do the following:
-
Review current best practices and position statements for continuation or revision, in addition to review instructional resources to be considered for adoption in LA/ELP.
-
Articulate and support long-term academic learning targets and assessments in LA/ELP.
-
Recommend professional development and structures for ongoing professional learning.
-
Consider budget and adoption implementation plans.
-
Participate in learning opportunities in the form of readings, discussion and trainings.
These goals are aligned with the Oregon Department of Education’s (ODE) Language Arts Standards and English Language Proficiency Standards. The District reviews and updates its curriculum, instructional practices and classroom materials according to board policy and Oregon statute and administrative regulations.
