What's AVID?

AVID is an elective class offered at all middle, high and option schools in the Beaverton School District. The class helps students develop the skills they need to succeed in college, careers and beyond. Please click here to learn more about the AVID class.

The Role of Tutors in Tutorials

As part of AVID, students participate in student-led tutorials, where small groups work together to solve challenges they are facing in their core classes. These sessions rely on volunteer tutors and that is where you come in!

You do not need any subject-matter expertise. As a tutor, your role is to coach and encourage one group of students by helping them to ask questions, stay focused and lead the discussion. You will be supported by the AVID elective teacher.

The time commitment is at least one class per week, with opportunities available from Tuesdays to Thursdays between the hours of 8:25AM to 4:15PM. Training is simple, consisting of a 30-minute virtual information session and a self-paced online course.

If you are interested in learning more about becoming an AVID Tutor, please complete the form below. Filling out the form does not obligate you to sign up, but you will receive information about how to get started.
