Film & Video Production

Filmmaking 1

Students will learn media production primarily through digital pictures and digital video. Students will use digital editing as a means of telling a story. The students will learn basic filming, picture taking and editing techniques as well as learn to plan, script and story board a project.

Filmmaking 2

Students will build on the skills that they learned in Filmmaking 1, expand upon that knowledge and create great short films. The students will learn more advanced filming, picture taking and editing techniques as well as learn to plan, script and story board a project. All genres of filmmaking (comedy, drama, experimental, documentary, and music video) will be discussed and reviewed. Students will also learn how to upload videos to the web.

Film Seminar

Do you have movies in your head that are banging to get out? Do you dream of having your stories seen by millions (well, maybe thousands) of people? Film Seminar will help you unleash your [inner] Hollywood Producer. We will watch movies, talk about them, and then make some our own. Learn how to organize your ideas and stories into workable film scripts. Directing, scripting, acting, cinematography, audio and other industry skills will be explored, and then applied to the movies you produce. Imagine yourself saying this: “Quiet on the set! Cameras ready? Sound Ready? Action!”

• 1 Credit (2 semesters)
• 10-12 grade

TV News & Documentary

The world is full of stories waiting to be told…Become a documentary film maker and start telling the world’s stories! TV News and Documentary Film class will help you discover your gifts as a developing news and documentary producer. Dig down deep into a subject that interests you, and tell the world what you’ve found. Some of the skills that students will learn are as follows: subject/topic choice and research; interview techniques; compelling B-roll footage; on-camera presence --and so much more. Let the world see that you can recognize a good story, and know how to tell it.

• 10-12 grade

Students can participate in additional related activities such as: 

Film students have the opportunity to produce videos for school and local community clients.

Advanced students complete real-world tasks alongside a business partner as part of a class project, for example, creating promotional videos for the Beaverton School District.
