SRHS Marketing

Intro to Business

This course will serve as an overview to the various business courses offered at Southridge as well as current events in the business world today. The curriculum will address the basics of marketing, management, accounting, and entrepreneurship.  Also studied will be the attributes of the successful business leader.

• 9-12 grade

Marketing I

This course is a study of how a product or service is conceived to the point it is utilized by the consumer.  Students will be exposed to the fundamentals of: marketing, communications, economics, market segmentation, product decisions from innovation to production and packaging, pricing strategies, promotion decisions from advertising to personal selling, and placement decisions.

Business Law

This course is designed to acquaint students with the basic legal environment of business.  Students will examine contracts, ethics, employment law, consumer protection laws, and legal affairs affecting property ownership.  The goal of this course is to contribute to students’ legal knowledge as it relates to their roles as citizens, consumers, employees, and future business leaders.

Marketing II 

This business elective course will provide the student with the opportunity to earn credit through Portland Community College at no cost.  It focuses on using current technology to create, revise, and design business documents: letters, memos, e-mail, reports, minutes, simple instructions, and resumes. Incorporates the use of library and Internet resources to collect information. Includes oral presentations using technology presentation tools. There will be additional focus on market research strategies, sales, advertising, visual merchandising, developing a basic marketing plan, branding and messaging.   The advertising component will involve developing an advertising campaign for a local company and a national brand.

Business Leadership

This business elective course will provide the student with the opportunity to earn credit through Portland Community College at no cost.  The curriculum of the course will follow the PCC BA 101 syllabus. It is a survey course in the field of business designed to expose the interested student to many modern industry functions. Extensive discussions will revolve around issues facing business such as: business environment, management, organization, marketing, finance, accounting, social media, international business and operating within a global economy. This class also provides an opportunity for students to complete their senior project and career academy endorsement.

• 1 Credit (2 semesters)
• 11-12 grade

Students can participate in additional related activities such as: 

• Business students can join DECA, a Career and Technical Student Organization that prepares emerging leaders and entrepreneurs for careers in marketing, finance, hospitality and management in high schools and colleges around the globe.  Student members of DECA learn and practice workplace skills through state and international competitions.  

• Students have the opportunity to practice their business skills through the operations of a school-based enterprise.

• Advanced students complete real-world tasks alongside a business mentor as part of a class project, for example, developing a marketing and advertising campaign for a local company.

Students may earn dual credit for some high school course work in this program.
