Mission Statement

Beaverton School District social workers will address barriers to student achievement and academic readiness by providing outreach to families, facilitating connections with meaningful resources, and collaborating with community partners.

The aim of the school social worker is to enhance the social and emotional growth and academic outcomes of students by reducing barriers to post high school success. These obstacles include poverty, lack of basic needs, substance use, systemic racism, behavioral challenges, and trauma related mental health concerns, such as depression and anxiety.

As mental health concerns continue to rise in our community and across the country, school social workers play an instrumental role in expediting access to services in our community for our students in need.  Additionally, we value the family system that students come from and aim to serve siblings, parents, caregivers, etc. in meeting their needs as well.  We serve the whole family in order to best serve the whole child.  Just some of the many services that School Social Workers provide are:

  • Professional Case Management
  • Advocacy for students, parents, and the school district
  • Referrals to Mental Health/Social Service resources available in the community
  • Home visits
  • Parent education and training
  • Safe schools climate and prevention programming
  • Collaboration with educational and student services professionals
  • Collaboration with community agencies and organizations
  • Staff training and development
  • Policy advocacy and development

Please contact your student's school counselor if you would like a referral to a BSD Social Worker.
