How to Join
If you are a BSD high school student interested in community service and gaining experience in alternative transportation, engineering, and traffic safety, we invite you to join the SRTS High School Advisory Committee.
We are looking for representatives from each BSD high school and options school to meet with us for one hour each month, along with a few additional hours each month dedicated to a group-selected project.
What We Do
The Safe Routes to School High School Advisory Committee is made up of students from across the Beaverton School District who are passionate about transportation safety, active transportation, and improving mobility for their peers and community. The committee meets monthly throughout the school year to discuss transportation issues, share student perspectives, and explore ways to make walking, biking, rolling, and taking transit safer and more accessible for everyone.
Each year, committee members select and complete a major project that addresses a transportation-related issue in their community. Recent accomplishments include designing and installing Beaverton’s first street mural, conducting a speed study to evaluate the impact of street art on vehicle speeds, and producing a qualitative report documenting the project's outcomes and community impact.
In addition to leading projects, committee members serve as an important voice for teens in local transportation planning. Students regularly provide feedback on city and county transportation plans, participate in public surveys, and help decision-makers better understand the needs and experiences of young people.
Through leadership, collaboration, and hands-on projects, the High School Advisory Committee empowers students to make a meaningful impact on transportation safety and active transportation in their schools and communities.
