Beaverton School District Radon Update - October 2017
Radon Program Report
Please review the Beaverton School District's comprehensive Radon Program that outlines our approach to identifying and minimizing radon risk over the next five years.
We take radon very seriously and worked diligently to develop our own District specific radon plan in 2014 that includes site-specific radon planning and training, a detailed sample strategy and procedures to ensure result accuracy, a framework for effective communication, and a comprehensive sample result database.
The program was submitted to the Oregon Health Authority (OHA) in August 2016, and conforms to the requirements of ORS 332.166-167 including:
- Conducting radon sampling in all schools and support facilities in all frequently occupied spaces in contact with the soil or located above a basement or a crawlspace,
- Completing sampling of all required spaces throughout the District by January 1, 2021, and
- Commitment to reporting results BSD School Board, community and OHA
We are confident that our comprehensive radon program will deliver statistically reliable radon results with the most efficient sample effort to minimize the risk of radon and provide effective communication to the students, teachers, staff and community on radon levels District-wide.
A reminder - Students and staff only spend a portion of their time at school, the greatest risk to radon exposure is at home. Please test your residence if you have not already done so. Test kits are available at retail stores, such as hardware stores, for home use and testing is available through licensed professionals.
