   ...meeting the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.  It considers the interrelationships of economic, social and environmental factors.

To help guide Beaverton School District in a direction consistent with the District's Sustainability Policy and Administrative Regulation, an Advisory Committee for Sustainability was formed to examine District practices and provide recommendations in its planning and routine operations.  Committee membership included parents, community partners, school and central office staff.

Through the work of the Committee, a long range plan identifying six priority work streams and their accompanying definitions unfolded.   Global Sustainability Goals emerged while the objectives supporting the goals were aligned with the contributions relevant to each work stream.

Recognizing that sustainability is an on-going effort without a specific end point, District departments may focus on one or more objective, establishing targets and performance metrics to gage progress.
