Early Release in Action: How to stay calm when students are in crisis
Elementary teachers, counselors and instructional assistants gathered at Vose Elementary School on early release Wednesday for a professional development course on "How to stay calm when students are in crisis" offered by District Social Workers, Sara Doig, Neha Hertzog, and Kaitlyn Hashek.
Through this course, elementary teachers learned to:
- Understand the impact of mental health on students
- Identify the signs of three common mental/behavioral health conditions
- Learn de-escalation strategies
Participants explored ways to address three common mental/behavioral health concerns, anxiety, depression and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). They engaged in activities geared toward developing intervention strategies and how to team with students to meet their needs.
