National School Lunch Week - October 9-13, 2017

​October 9-13 is National School Lunch Week. The Beaverton School District Nutrition Services Department serves thousands of lunches to students each week. Less than 200 dedicated kitchen staff prepare and serve an average of 4,500 breakfasts and more than 16,000 student lunches each day.

The most popular items at elementary schools are pizza and "brunch for lunch". At the secondary levels, pizza and bento are the favorites.

Nutrition Services participates in the Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program, the Afterschool Supper Program, the Summer Food Service Program and Headstart.

Did you know Nutrition Services works with local suppliers and farmers to feature Oregon grown products? Here are just a few examples:

    • Dried cranberries from Bandon
    • Watermelon from Hermiston
    • Grapes from Scholls
    • Red & romaine lettuce from Canby
    • Radishes & zucchini from Forest Grove
    • Apples & pears from Hood River

 The first month of the school year, Nutrition Services purchased 9.7 tons of chicken and served more than 8,000 pizzas!
