Policy EEACC
The following regulations will govern student conduct on school buses and will be posted in a conspicuous place in all buses:

Students being transported are under authority of the bus driver;

Fighting, wrestling or boisterous activity is prohibited on the bus;

Students will use the emergency door only in case of emergency;
-
Students will be on time for the bus, both morning and evening;

Students will not bring firearms, weapons or other potentially hazardous material on the bus;
-
Students will not bring animals, except approved service animals, on the bus;
-
Students will remain seated while bus is in motion;
-
Students may be assigned seats by the bus driver;
-
When necessary to cross the road, students will cross in front of the bus or as instructed by the bus driver;

Students will not extend their hands, arms or heads through bus windows;
-
Students will have written permission to leave the bus other than for home or school;

Students will converse in normal tones; loud or vulgar language is prohibited;
-
Students will not open or close windows without permission of the driver;
-
Students will keep the bus clean and must refrain from damaging it;

Students will be courteous to the driver, fellow students and passers-by;
-
Students who refuse to promptly obey the directions of the driver or refuse to obey regulations may forfeit their privilege to ride on the buses.
The superintendent will establish other regulations as necessary for the safe conduct of students riding district school buses or other forms of district transportation and for disciplinary action. Such regulations will be available to all parents and students and posted in each school bus or other district vehicle.
Students who violate bus rules of conduct may be denied the use of district transportation.

Discipline Procedures for District-Approved Student Transportation
All students eligible for district-approved student transportation shall receive safety instruction and a code of conduct.
Violation of the code of conduct or conduct which jeopardizes the health/safety of self-and/or others may result in the loss of district-approved transportation services.
Safety Instructions
A. All regularly transported students shall receive the following instructions at least once
within the first six weeks of the first half of the school year and once within the first six
weeks of the second half of the school year:
- Safe school bus riding procedures, including but not limited to loading, unloading, crossing, etc.
- Use of emergency exits; and
- Planned and orderly evacuation of the school bus in case of emergency, including participation in actual evacuation drills.
B. At least once in the first half of each school year the Administrator for Transportation
or designee will direct all bus drivers to conduct a safety review with all other students.
- The drivers shall review safe bus riding procedures.
- The drivers shall review use of emergency exits.
C. The Administrator for Transportation or designee will record dates and content of
safety instructions by each driver. Such information shall be kept as a part of the
district’s records.
Code of Conduct
Each year the district will include the following transportation rules in the Student Responsibilities and Rights Handbook.
The district will provide interpretation to those students/parents whose primary language is not English.
While riding a school bus, students will:
- Obey the driver at all times;
- Not throw objects;
- Not have in their possession knives, guns or any other object which might be used as a weapon;
- Not fight, wrestle or scuffle;
- Not stand up and/or move from seats while the bus is in motion;
- Not extend hands, head, feed or objects from windows or doors;
- Not possess matches or other incendiaries and concussion devices;
- User emergency exits only as directed by the bus driver;
- Not damage school property or the personal property of others;
- Not threaten or physically harm the driver or other riders;
- Not do any disruptive activity which might cause the driver to stop the bus in order to reestablish order;
- Not make disrespectful or obscene statements;
- Not possess and/or use tobacco, alcohol or illegal drugs;
- Not eat or chew gum;
- Not carry glass containers or other glass objects;
- Accept assigned seats;
- Stay away from the bus when it is moving;
- Be at the bus stop five minutes before the scheduled pick up time;
- *Answer to coaches, teachers and chaperones who are responsible for maintaining
order on trips.
* Coaches, teachers and chaperones on a trip must be familiar with these rules prior to
boarding and must position themselves on the bus as to be in control of discipline at all
times.
Violations
Student disciplinary action is adjudicated through school administration. Student discipline referrals are generated by bus drivers and transmitted to school administration. Violations of the Code of Conduct or failure to follow directions of the bus driver may result in disciplinary action up to and including suspension or revocation of bus riding privileges/
APPEAL PROCEDURE
If a student or parent wishes to appeal the application of the discipline policy, school administration should be contacted and appeal procedures outlined in the Student and Family Handbook should be followed.
