Supervisory Aide ​

POSITION PURPOSE:

Assists teachers and supervises students to ensure their safety and welfare. Gives tests, records information and performs a variety of routine clerical tasks such as filing, collating and light typing.

REPORTS TO:        

Building Administrator or Designated Supervisor

NATURE AND SCOPE:

Performs work of a routine and recurring nature in accordance with clearly defined procedures and guidelines under close supervision.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  1. Supervises students in study halls, ISS classrooms, during recess and lunch periods on the playground, in the cafeteria, library and hallways.
  2. Assists teacher in giving tests, filling out progress reports, recording information, typing materials and performing other related clerical tasks. Assists students with assignments and providing resources to complete assignments.

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:

3. Provides back-up support to other positions in the school in case of absence or work overload.
4. Performs other related duties as assigned.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Work for the most part is performed indoors with some outdoor activity supervising students.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of instructional practices, procedures and equipment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with other employees and students using tact, courtesy and good judgment.
  • Ability to provide supervision over students effectively.
  • Ability to work with accuracy and attention to detail to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to understand and execute oral and written instructions, policies and procedures.
  • Ability to operate standard office equipment such as typewriter, computer terminal, word processor, calculator and photocopier.
  • Ability to physically perform assigned duties.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

High school diploma, or G.E.D., and six months experience working with children is desirable; or any combination of education and experience which would provide the applicant with the desired skills, knowledge and ability required to perform the job.
