Nurses

School nursing is a specialized practice of professional nursing that advances the health, safety, and academic success of students. School Nurses serve as a liaison between school personnel, family, community and healthcare providers to advocate for student health and a healthy school environment. 

Health Services include District School Nurses, Classroom Nurses, and Health Assistants, who provide nursing and related support to students in the Beaverton School District. 


District School Nurse role: 

 • Coordinates school health services for all students.

 • Participates as a member of the IEP and 504 teams to identify and minimize health related barriers and to promote access to learning. 

 • Develops and coordinates individual Health Management Plans based on nursing assessments.

 • Provides training and supervision to staff regarding specialized healthcare services. 


Classroom Nurse role: 

 • Provides direct nursing services for students in specialized programs and throughout the district in collaboration with District School Nurses. 

 • Assures that students’ health needs are monitored and met in the classroom and/or on the bus. 

 • May assist with and supervise non-nursing activities that may be required for the student to access the educational program. 


Health Assistant role: 

 • Provides general first aid and specialized healthcare procedures per District Nurse direction. 

 • Coordinates and assists with student vision and hearing screenings and maintains screening records.
