________________AVID Elective Class________________

This elective focuses on the main college readiness skills our students need to be successful in high school and beyond.  The key skills taught are writing, inquiry, collaboration, organization and reading.  In addition to developing core skills students receive support in exploring their college options and build a "family" community in their AVID elective class.

______________The "Ideal" AVID Student_______________

AVID students are students in the middle, capable of completing a college preparatory path with support. These students often are not realizing their full potential academically. In the identification process a number of criteria are considered, including:

      • Citizenship (No serious discipline issues allowed)
      • Attendance (Good attendance is a must)
      • Desire and Determination
      • First in the Family to Attend College
      • Historically Underrepresented in 4-year colleges/universities
      • Economically Disadvantaged
      • Other Special Circumstances
